Tycoon Users
In the last three years, we have used Tycoon mainly for basic resarch
into persistent and distributed system architectures within our own group.
However, we are now starting to give away the bootstrapped Tycoon system
to other research and development groups. Most of our current clients utilize
Tycoon for system integration tasks:
- The database
systems group of Prof.
Dr. Martin Gogolla at Bremen
University used a SunOS Tycoon system to build a system for the validation
of TROLL light specifications (Diplomarbeit
von Mark Richters).
- The group of Prof. Catriel
Beeri (Hebrew University, Jerusalem,
Israel) uses a SunOS4.1 Tycoon system for the design of polymorphic libraries
supporting the optimization of multiple bulk type queries.
- The group Computergestüzte
Informationssysteme (Prof. Herbert Weber, Dr. Ralf Kutsche, TU
Universität Berlin, Germany) uses a SunOS4.1 Tycoon system to
explore the integration of heterogeneous environmental databases (Diplomarbeit
von Susanne Busse). It
is planned to utilize the experience gained in this project for further
(commercial) projects at the Frauenhofer
ISST Berlin.
- The group Angewandte
und Sozialorientierte Informatik (Dr. Bernd Page, Dr. Lorenz Hilty,
Universität Hamburg,
Germany) uses a SunOS4.1 and a Macintosh Tycoon system to integrate a geographical
information system (GIS) on the Macintosh with a Sun simulation workbench
in the framework of a logistics resarch project (Mobile).
- All WWW server database scripts of the European Idomeneus
Network of Excellence are implemented using a SunOS4.1 Tycoon system (Bulletin
Board, OASIS).
- The PolitIcon project (Prof. Warncke,
Kunstgeschichtliches
Seminar, FB09, Universität Hamburg, Prof. Schmidt, DBIS,
FB18, Universität Hamburg) uses a SunOS4.1 Tycoon system to integrate
relational databases, a text retrieval engine and a WWW front end to build
a workbench for art history researchers.
- The Style project used a SunOS4.1 Tycoon
system to implement an object-oriented data modeling workbench which provides
an integrated set of graphical and textual modeling tools, generation support
and data model animation.
- Prof. David
Maier (DISC, Oregon Graduate Institute
of Science and Technology) and Prof. Stan
Zdonik (Object-Oriented Database Group, Brown
University) plan to include Tycoon examples into their book on object-oriented
databases and are eagerly awaiting their copy of a stand-alone Tycoon Macintosh
system.
- Our most recent project utilizes SunOS4.1, SunOS5.3, Macintosh and
Windows-NT Tycoon systems to build a multi-platform workflow system [Stam95]
for cross-company workflow design and enactment.

work, please visit the Tycoon
distribution information page.
