The publication record of Dr. Schmidt contains about 100 scientific and technical entries.

Dr. Schmidt was member of the ANSI/X3/SPARC DBS-SG Relational Database Task Group whose final Report was published in 1982.

Since 1996, Dr. Schmidt is co-founder and chairman of the supervisory board of the software company CoreMedia© AG, Hamburg. Furthermore, he is co-founder and member of the supervisory board of the software company infoAsset© AG, Munic (1999).

 

  Research and Development Project Leadership   

 
Dr. Schmidt acts as a principal investigator in major R&D projects sponsored by national and international agencies as well as industry. Selected examples include:

  • ESPRIT Basic Research Project FIDE on “Fully Integrated Data Environments” 1992 – 1997

  • ESPRIT Project MARINFO, An Internet Information Infrastructure for the Maritime Industry 1996 – 1999

  • EU/Canada Collaboration Action on “Activity Modeling and Object Technology for Cooperative Information Systems” 1995 – 1999

  • Standard Software for Enterprise Resource Planning (City of Hamburg and SAP AG) 1998 – 2002

  • Multimedia Document Management in Heterogeneous Environments (Germanischer Lloyd, Hamburg; Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Berlin) 1999 – 2002

Dr. Schmidt is co-founder of the MIT Press Series on “Cooperative Information Systems”, the Springer-Verlag Series “Topics in Information Systems” as well as a founding member of the major international conference series on “Extending Database Technology (EDBT)”. 
His editorial board activities extend to scientific journals such as “Information Systems”, “Programming Languages”, “Data and Knowledge”, “Distributed Computing” and the newly established “VLDB Journal”. 
He serves regularly as a strategic advisor and reviewer for the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bonn, the European Community, Brussels, and the National Science Foundation, Washington, USA.
