Gustav Munkby

Intro

Welcome

Welcome to the webpage of Gustav Munkby, a PhD-student in the Institute for Software Systems at Hamburg University of Technology.

On purpose, this webpage uses a minimalistic design without either pictures or scripts. Ideally, this would allow the page to be nicely rendered in text-only browsers and handheld devices. As a benefit, the page should also be accessible to people with disabilities.

Still, the webpage makes use of a lot of CSS features to make the page look visually pleasin, and somewhat interesting, in a modern browser. It seems to be working as intended in both Firefox 3.6 and Safari 5.0.

As you can probably tell by now, I like tinkering with software, and have done so for a long time. You can even find some of my old webpages online.

Research

Research topic

My research concerns software-implemented hardware fault-tolerance techniques for the construction of reliable systems in the presence of transient hardware faults. The contribution of my thesis work involves using software-engineering techniques for improving error-propagation models as well as introducing new fault-tolerance mechanisms. In particular, I use data-flow based program analysis for predicting error impact by determining variable usage profiles, and I apply software-construction practices, such as abstract data types, for reducing fault impact.
